Mr President of the Senate, Mr Speaker of the House of Representatives, Distinguished and Honourable Members of the National Assembly, I finally seek your indulgence to end my address with a humble appeal, an appeal for co-operation. Our one year experience has convinced me that the Presidential system of government can work in our great country. Teething problems are natural. They are part and parcel of our learning process. Thereafter should follow a period of smooth and successful operation of the new system.

We must see ourselves as partners in the service of our country. And for the period that we are players on the stage, let our performance be worthy of emulation by those who will come after us.
